History

The academic units of LSU Shreveport supply the intellectual capital necessary to support the region's intellectual, economic, social, and cultural development. It dos this by offering academic programs of recognized distinction; by offering continuing education opportunities appropriate to career and lifelong learning; and by providing access to a wealth of information via our Noel Memorial Library.

There is no more prestigious degree in all of the South than a degree from LSU. You can get your LSU System degree right here in Shreveport.

From its humble beginnings in 1967, LSUS has become a pivotal force in the upcoming and thriving Shreveport-Bossier area. LSUS is recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as a Title V Institution. With its stellar faculty and devoted staff, LSUS' Mission is to educate and promote critical thinking for its well-rounded students.

It all begins with a beautiful campus, outstanding programs and generous scholarships and financial aid. Your options for involvement are many, from the championship Debate Team and diverse volunteer opportunities to the Greek system, Athletics Program and a wonderful Recreational Sports Center- complete with an indoor swimming pool! LSUS also offers a vibrant student newspaper, The Almagest, and is home to an Olympic Weightlifting Center.

LSUS has more than 20 undergraduate degree programs, a dozen master's degree programs (including the new online MBA), and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership Studies. The student-teacher ratio is one of the lowest in the state, lending to individualized instruction and personalized learning.

LSUS recently introduced eight-week semesters to allow interested students to earn their degrees at a faster pace. In addition to an outstanding classroom experience, LSUS offers over 70 clubs and organizations and encourages students to explore their interests.

The LSUS Athletic program has quickly become one of the top NAIA programs in the country. Men's basketball has enjoyed nine straight NAIA national tournament appearances while the Lady Pilots basketball team has been there four of the last five years. The Pilot's baseball team has at least 40 wins in 10 of the last 11 seasons and has made three NAIA World Series appearances finishing in third place twice and fourth place once.

LSUS is home to the USA Weightlifting High Performance and Development Center, the first and most successful center of its kind in the country. This facility has hosted varied regional, national, and international competitions. Some of the weight lifters have gone on to compete for team USA in the Olympics as well as other international competitions.

Most recently, LSUS has started working on a partnership with Bossier Parish Community College and Southern University at Shreveport. This partnership creates a convenient option for students to better themselves and makes it easier to transfer to a four year university.

LSUS is home to some of the most innovative technology around. Students enrolling in certain programs can learn current industry standard software, and have access to professional grade servers, digital media classrooms, a 3D printer and even a green screen studio with a motion capture camera system!

Named by the U.S. Department of Education as one of the most affordable colleges in Louisiana, LSU Shreveport offers high quality classroom instruction with very affordable tuition rates. In addition, LSUS offers many forms of financial aid, including scholarships, on-campus employment, and graduate assistant-ships. Finances don't have to stop you from achieving your goals of a high quality education. All of these improvements continue to enhance the student experience at LSU Shreveport, and the University has proven itself to be an institution of opportunity and quality.
