	The Boston Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency is a 4-year training program based in an urban, academic, Level 1 trauma center in the heart of Boston. It is the first emergency medicine residency program in the City of Boston and one of the oldest in the Northeast.

	Boston Medical Center (BMC) prides itself on being the safety-net hospital for the Boston metropolitan area and having a long history of commitment to our community. Established in 1864 as Boston City Hospital, we were the first municipal hospital in the United States. Its mission of providing compassionate, state-of-the-art care to a diverse and under-served patient population continues to this day. BMC is a national leader in programs advocating for violence-prevention, substance abuse treatment, HIV testing and prevention, services for our homeless community members, and refugee health and human rights. BMC is also a tertiary care referral center for patients from all over the region and country, offering renowned specialists for a variety of illnesses including pulmonary hypertension, trauma, cardiac disease, stroke, renal disease, traumatic encephalopathy, and amyloidosis. 	Residents receive unparalleled training in trauma, point-of-care ultrasound, pediatric emergency medicine, EMS, and public health. It has a dedicated pediatric ED as well as a close relationship with Boston Children’s Hospital through the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics (BCRP). We are the affiliate hospital for Boston EMS, provide medical control for the City of Boston, and serve as the receiving facility for the majority of traumatic injuries in the metropolitan area. In addition, it is an independent and influential academic department at both BMC and the Boston University School of Medicine. Finally, t offers fellowship training in ultrasound, EMS, and pediatric emergency medicine.

	One of the greatest strengths of the program is our talented group of residents, drawn from medical schools all over the country and with diverse outside interests and accomplishments spanning the arts, engineering, public health, international work, and sports. Not only is our program dedicated to excellence in resident training, it has a long and proven track record of producing leaders in all aspects of emergency medicine.
